Some people still think there's only one March holiday that celebrates ridiculous excess. Those people have never experienced the awesome power of National Corndog Day, an event which is taking its place beside Paddy's Day in the national imagination.

Why, you ask? The reason is simple. This country needs a celebration devoid of the pressure and obligations that can make other so-called "holidays" a drag. Corndog Day is about indulgence, not deprivation; festivities, not fastidiousness; debauchery not decorum. It is a holiday in full that makes no apologies and has no pretensions. To honor this rich tradition, we'll be hosting one of California's officially recognized Corndog Day Parties on Saturday, March 20th.

Festivities start at tip-off of the first NCAA tournament game (approximately 9:30 AM) and last throughout the day. What's more, the competition won't be limited to the big screen. For those who can turn the hallowed triple-double (10 corndogs, 10 beers and 100 tater tots), fame and fortune await. It's all there for the taking (yes, even veggie dogs).

This is the Bay Area's original NCD party! Now in our 11th year we are also a fundraiser for the Alameda County Food Bank. Each guest is asked to contribute some money to feed the hungry in Alameda County. In the past 4 years we have raise over $2000 for the food bank.

We also make all of our own corndogs and serve locally made Trumer Pils (on draft) for the celebration.

The past few years has seen an explosion of children amongst our friends (including the hosts!) so the party is a family friendly event.

A quick FAQ:

Don't know what corndog day is - lets see...basicially, ungodly amounts of corndogs, tater tots, beer, and college basketball

Don't like corndogs - are you serious - you know what a corndog is right?

Don't think it is a good idea to start drinking at 10am on a Saturday - you have received this evite in error

Don't know if you can do a triple double this year - start training immediately and remember Familian did it last year and then went out clubbing til 4am.

Don't know what a triple double is? Merely 10 corndogs, 10 units of tater tots (each unit consisting of 10 tots), and 10 beers

This is my fifth year hosting a party. I've been a host in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Over those years it's grown from a gathering around the tube in my living room to a block party. Along with the NCD fixtures we're avid Corn Hole players and have an bracket tournament to determine the Corn King.

I've only been to parties I've hosted, although I lived with Kenny Otley in college and he told me many an epic tale of Henry Otley's early NCD bashes. Our home host works at Foster Farms and tells us it is the largest corn dog maker in the world, and at about 1 million corn dogs per week, I would agree. We will of course be cooking Foster Farms corn dogs, lots of them. We have a Frymaster double basket deep fryer, but are talking about baking the tots, to leave more room for the "dogs". If it doesn't rain we hope to have 30 to 40 corn dog, tater tot, root beer and basketball fanatics, having their fill by halftime, and then some more!! We might even have a few "hot links" breaded and thrown-in for good measure!!

No NCD parties, but we have had two annual "FRYDAYS" at around Holloween where we have taken over the parking lot at our office, shut down for about 1 1/2 hours and consumed lots and lots of corn dogs, etc
