Encinitas 2011 - records continue to fall

We had a blast this year! We upped our attendance record to 63. John and Natalie brought our youngest attendee, 8-week old Skylar. We had our first triple double -- we think Noah could have kept eating (he had 13 dogs) but the beers were slowing him down! The kids craft was pure insanity. Thanks to our guests and sponsors -- we're ready to go HUGE for the 20th anniversary!

We shattered attendance records this year -- 56 participants! We had plenty of beer, but needed 2 corndog runs. No triple-doubles this year, but again the kids were strong!

2009 Encinitas NCD: Large, Kids in Charge

We had 34 -- a new record -- this year, including 14 children (41%)! Again the kids were the difference makers this year. 10 y.o. Eamonn R. had 7 dogs. Mia T. ate more than her age (a 4:3 ratio). Unfortunately for Charlie, the kids held on to their dogs this year, he only got a remnant of Margot D's corndog. Duke and Gonzaga provided some quality drama, helping us polish off all the dogs with seconds to spare. No 3x2's this year, but the temp tattoos and magnets were a hit (nice touch Brady!).

We had no t-d's, I peaked at 5-7-10+ (I'm always good for the last piece). But we have a new first -- EVA MAUDAL ATE MORE CORNDOGS THAN HER AGE!!!

Now, one could argue that a 2-year old is uniquely qualified for such a feat, but still -- for her first NCD, that's pretty good. When she had finished the 2nd and asked her mom "more corndog!" we flipped. And she ate it!

The hour was late. Charlie -- our half beagle, half undead-food-finder -- had seen dozens of corndogs eaten without spill or careless exposure. The last round of guests came in, and with a glimmer of hope -- like a 15 seed that makes that three to get w/in 9 points -- Charlie had his mark. Owen Schofield, now 2 and sturdy, was on the move. His brother broke to his 'dog, Owen snatched it, pivoted to the ajar glass door where he found his outlet ready to receive, and executed a perfect through-the-slot corndog hand-off. I got to Charlie in time to get the stick out (he WILL swallow them if you let him). Victory was his.

Wave 2 - NCD Bouncie Castle

The next wave brought the full expected chaos level to ENCD3. Natalie and John brought Jetta, their lab pup, to play with Charlie -- they had fun but Charlie won "grab a corndog right out of a kid's hand" by the score 1-0.

The Schofields and the Fenns brought the kid factor high - so we pulled out the full backyard arsenal of balls, bouncie castle, swingset. Is this the first NCD Bouncie Castle? Surely Matt Gray would have been hospitalized by now if not.

Personally I think i made 10 beers again, but slowed down at 6/40. We got to see Indiana scratch back only to succumb to the no-timeout-pressure (maybe they should only have a couple per half -- that was pretty fun!).

Oddly, we have a couple boxes left so the Corndog Fairy will be visiting the Kintera fridges this year!

Wave 1

First timers were first in line, and got to watch the X men almost take out Ohio State.

Shauna and Moses were next in -- Moses was evangelizing via mobile phone, I think next year we can expect some more rookies from his efforts!

The chaos and consumption -- the high highs, the low lows, it's just like NCD 1998 but instead of college kids it's toddlers. The cycle of life continues.

No TD'ers here, some halfway-there though. Poor Tennessee.
