bsahnow's blog

National Corndog Day coincides with the Saturday of the final 32 teams in NCAA basketball tournament (this year it’s March 19).
This Saturday is the only day all year that one can watch a quadruple-header of college basketball games from start to finish without having to change the channel.
Therefore, to celebrate the excitement of the college basketball tournament, and have fun with friends, we eat Corndogs! Lots of Corndogs...

Portland is off and running!!

I am attending a great party here in SW Portland complete with dog warming machines, party pack decor throughout, and a bunch of great folks. Lots of good early efforts- 4 people posting 3-3-1 so far. In about an hour we kick it up a notch and head to the Rose Garden for back to back LIVE games from the NCD suite. We will have tons of dogs, tots and PBR while we take in the atmosphere of the big dance. If you can't tell, I am psyched!!

Gotta love corndog day...

PBR Photo Contest WINNER!!!!

Corndog friends, corndog families,

Whilst many of you have been reveling in, and reliving the stories of
National Corndog Day 2008, we here at Corndog Central have been hard at
work. As you would know, Pabst Blue Ribbon, seized the opportunity and
became an official sponsor of NCD. Pandemonium broke out here at Corndog
Central as official word that PBR was on board spread. That excitement
quickly turned to panic when it was explained to us that we would need to be
judge and jury for the First Annual Pabst Blue Ribbon National Corndog Day
Photo Competition!

To ensure that the judging was conducted above board, we decided to hire the
Zimbabwean Electoral Commission as our probity auditor. Good to their word
the Commission was able to ensure our independence and transparency.
Seriously though, the Corndog Day crew has been in heated discussions over
who the five lucky winners should be. By employing the traditional method
of each choosing our five favorites and tallying the scores the winners have
been determined.

It is with great fan fare that on the day when the Kansas Jayhawks and
Memphis Tigers throw the ball up to determine the 2008 NCAA Division IA
National Basketball Championship, we announce the winners of the National
Corndog Day Pabst Blue Ribbon photo contest to be:

1. The LC Pabst Pyramid (submitted by stiles2503)
2. True American Symbolism (submitted by Philly)
3. I'm sticking with PBR (submitted by Suzie Corndog)
4, Hands Full - Improvise (submitted by petuniapig11)
5. Puff Paint + Pabst + Pomeranian = Gansta (submitted by dylandarling)

Special shout out to the Welcome Pabst photo but it gets the automatic
disqualification for being submitted by a blood relation to one of the
judges.

Congratulations to all the winners (your check will be mailed to you soon). Many many
more thanks to everyone that entered. We hope to make the photo competition
a tradition for many years to come and look forward to all the future years'
entries.

Thanks again to our sponsors and everyone that took part in NCD 2008, here's
hoping that the 2009 version is even better!

Corndog love to all,
Henry, Brady, and the rest of the NCD crew

HUGE THANKS TO ALL!!!

What a phenomenal effort this year!! Thanks to all the hosts, participants, bystanders, sponsors, media folks and anyone else that I might be forgetting. This was the first giant leap for Corndog Day and none of it would be possible without all of you out there. So while we are all still recovering this afternoon I would just like to once again say thanks, get ready for bigger and better next year, and keep on corndoggin'.

Brady (and Henry via Australia)

Ready to GET IT ON!!!!

I apologize for my late entry into the fray this year- two little boys under 3 will do that to you I guess. The enthusiasm is FANTASTIC and I appreciate all of you getting the word out about our favorite Saturday of the year. Let's have lots of fun, set some records, and watch some great games (though last year will be tough to beat...)!

Watch in the near future for the new poster, a Flickr pool for party hosts so we can post pictures on the site, and maybe...possibly...don't get your hopes up...cross your fingers...some news about a new sponsor interested in supporting NCD. It just keeps getting better!

Cheers to the big day,
Brady

Nothing to be disappointed about....

Well we are 3 hours in and this has already been an epic performance. We have someone attmepting the triple double in 2 hours, somebody substituting Cherry Vodka Smrinoff for beers, and several veterans that no longer see the value in the dogs versus the happiness of the Busch Light Keg....very nice....I like...High Five....

2007 May be the best ever....

With the synergy of NCD and St. Patty's Day this could be one for the record books. The two actually compliment each other nicely and if I was smart enough I would figure out how to market them together in some kind of Milwaukees Best ad campaign for "Green Beast Light" and then retire (maybe Australia with Henry???). I do think it will be very interesting to see all the planning that goes into this for the rookies: "we'll go to corndog day until about 5, then nap for a bit and go out later." Wrong. For anyone that has any real experience with NCD, you know that by the last buzzer you are ready to be ROLLED into bed and going out sounds like quite possibly the worst idea ever. However, it can be done and I think if ever there was a year to rally up after the celebration with the dogs- this is it. I plan to hit it hard early (3-5 dogs by noon) and then ease off the throttle a bit in the aftenoon, remain coherent for any radio interviews and then dance on the bar at the Cantina. Any takers?

Thanks to you all for making this what it is. This is gonna be fun.
Brady

Dream Team

I believe after 7 wonderful years it is time to recognize the elite athletes in our.....sport. To separate the eaters from the talkers, the playas from the haters, the cream from the crop, and those that can "Walk the Line" from those that "Crash" (no Brokeback jokes here). We will create the all-time 1st team all-American Corndog Hit Squad. I put this blog out for nominations for the 5 greatest NCD ballers- achievement, spirit, and longevity will be the primary criteria. Since we don't all know eachother in corndog nation there will definitely be some lobbying and I, like Congress, accept trips, vacations, etc. to get your guy/gal on the team. Henry, Greg, and I (all worthy in spirit and longevity but lacking in achievement) will serve as the judges- unless they throw me under the bus, declare themselves the greatest, and enter the ring with the rest. By the way- there also needs to be nominations for the biggest crash and burn team- this could be triple doubles gone bad or all talk no performance, whatever. This will be the "Burnt Tots Squad." So here are my first 5 in no order and subject to argument:
1- Bob Ishikawa: Finished the '05 TD only when the game went to double OT. Amazing.
2- Tristan Cross: Had to run to the store for tots to finish the TD in time. Dedication.
3- Mike Stair: Back to back TD even after serious stomach issues and pain the first time. Perserverance.
4- Rynnie (Ryan and Bonnie) Flynn: Top hus-wife duo from the get-go. Teamwork.
5- Bubba: Brought a 12' Blow up lobster to a party and then lobbied for guests wearing a sandwich board downtown.* Unbelievable.
*This activity, though hilarious, may or may not bring in the clientele you are hoping for at your party. NCD is not responsible is what we are getting at...good story though.

Burnt tot squad (BTS):
1- Bob Turney: said he would dominate and eat 10-15 dogs but left sweating profusely and sick after 7. Crash.
2- E-Balls: (wants his name protected): After 3 nights of strategy sessions on how to complete the TD he was down on the floor passed out at noon. Vomit. Ouch.
3- Pat "Big Cat" Maloney: Declared his intention of blowing through the TD but like a horse with early speed went out too early on the dogs. Got through 9 and 1/3 before declaring he couldn't take one more bite. Funny.
4- PK: Doesn't drink so asked if he could do 16 dogs and 100 tots with no beer. This hasn't happened yet, but I know how it will end. He will make this team.
5- Random Guy at NCD Portland 2002: Showed up thanks to Bubba's sign and started going to town on the dogs. I think he was in the ally throwing up 30 minutes later, never to be seen again.

So there it is- my early nominations. I expect there will be shuffling of this list so bring on the nominees. Maybe someday we will have an award show like the Oscars or the Espys- I wonder what our statue would look like?

Peace- Brady
