One of my favorite rites of passage is the hyping of workforce productivity (or lack of it) during March Madness. The estimated cost in 2008? $1.7 Billion. Wow. And that's not even including the fevered pitch of NCD over the weekend.

Corndog Wobbler

As National Corndog Day hits 15 this year (wow), there is definitely a trend -- many of the original hosts and parties are now becoming "kid friendly." To me that shows the commitment to corndogs and the celebration transcends other life changes. It is a constant, a date that anchors the calendar with sweet cornbread goodness.

And never fear -- there are plenty of new parties taking up the youth mantle. But the question remains -- will anyone aside from DC's Narrow House ever redo the ice luge?

Time To Get Organized

With most hoops leagues across the NCAA well into the second half of their schedule, our thoughts naturally turn to the Big Dance and the Big Dogs -- National Corndog Day and the NCAA Tourney.

We're getting organized right now, so expect to hear from us a lot over the next days and weeks. For now, if you haven't submitted your party information, take a gander over to the Parties Page and get yourself signed up.

If you don't want to host a party, just stay tuned -- we're trying to recruit at lease one party in most states so that NCD is accessible to people across the country.

Why Russ Uman is my hero

National Corndog Day is, in a lot of ways, all about hero worship. Yes, it is collective action and community building, but at the end of the 10 hours of joy and stuffing, we revere the warriors who have punished their bodies and soul for what is a fleeting gastro-cycle of glory. They are the heroes.

Today though, we have another hero to worship and thank -- Russ Uman. His contribution is in the finest traditions of National Corndog Day-dom.
